Vitamin D Levels May Reduce the Risk of Miscarriage
A recent study published in the Lancet suggests that Vitamin D levels may reduce the risk of miscarriage in women who have already had a miscarriage. In this prospective cohort study, investigators followed 1191 women who were trying to conceive and had at least one prior loss. At baseline, 47% of women had adequate Vitamin D levels and 53% had inadequate vitamin D levels. Women with adequate levels of Vitamin D were 10% more likely to achieve pregnancy and 15% more likely to have a live birth after a miscarriage. Those with adequate Vitamin D levels were also less likely to have another pregnancy loss.
These findings suggest that Vitamin D may play an important role in pregnancy. At Fertility Centers of New England, we recommend Vitamin D supplementation for all of our patients. A healthy lifestyle is very important for anyone trying to conceive. If you have questions about your or your partner’s fertility, please contact us today!
