How Soon Is It Safe to Conceive Again After a Successful Pregnancy?
After having a pregnancy, patients often wonder how soon is it safe to conceive again after a successful pregnancy. Due to age or prior infertility, many patients feel that they have a narrow window of opportunity and are anxious to try to conceive again as soon as possible. A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Natality National Database found that patients who conceived in less than 12 months (either naturally or through fertility treatment) experienced an increased risk of preterm birth. These findings suggest that, ideally, patients should wait a minimum of one year in between pregnancies.
Freezing Embryos for Later Use
In order to expedite their care, some patients may elect to create embryos prior to the one-year mark. They can then use those embryo(s) once a year has passed from their prior delivery. As long as the patient is not breastfeeding, this approach is considered safe and reasonable. At the Fertility Centers of New England, we are committed to helping couples optimize their chances of having the healthiest, safest pregnancy possible.
